Ulaanbaatar Sightseeing

Day 1 Zaisan Hill / Military Museum / National Archery / Shopping

Begin the day with a visit to Zaisan Hill the place to get a birds eye view of the city surrounded by four mountains range. Next, we will drive to the Mongolian Military museum and learn about Mongolia’s military history. Then, we will enjoy a national archery demonstration by an experienced archer and will also try on our own.

After the lunch at a fine restaurant in the city, we will visit a souvenir shop. Next, we will drive to the Gobi cashmere factory and learn about the production. Later, will visit its outlet store with excellent collection of designs.

In the late afternoon, we will transfer back to your hotel.

Classic City Shopping Tour

Hand Made souvenirs, jewelries and cashmere products

The city of Ulaanbaatar offers variety of shopping opportunities from fixed souvenir stores to small studios of artists. Our first stop is at the State Department Store, Mongolia’s oldest souvenir shop place. Next, we will visit a musical instrument-making studio located in the ger district of Ulaanbaatar. Here, instruments such as horses headed fiddle are made. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Next, we will visit a local jewelry store and learn about Mongolia’s silverware. Our last stop is at the Gobi Cashmere Factory Stop, offering a great selection of fine cashmere products, ranging from a full size blankets to scarves and gloves.

Itinerary

Day 1 Ulaanbaatar shopping districts

In the morning, meet your guide and visit the State Department store to discover what type of souvenirs are made. Next, visit a small factory that produces musical instruments located in the northern part of the city. Here the legendary horse-headed fiddle is made by specially trained artists. After the visit, we will drive to the downtown Ulaanbaatar to enjoy lunch. Then, visit a jewelry store to check out Mongolia’s silversmith’s work.

Our last stop is at the Gobi Cashmere factory. In the late afternoon, transfer back to your hotel. End of service. (L)

Cashmere Shopping Exclusive

From nomadic families to the Gobi Cashmere factory outlet

Mongolia is the second largest provider of cashmere in the world. Cashmere is a thin layer of hair that grows underneath of goats belly. It is also one of the main sources of supply for the Mongolian nomads. Each spring, herders comb the cashmere from the goats which is then bagged and sold to cashmere factories. Raw cashmere is then washed, sorted and dyed in various colours to be woven for final products. This exclusive tour of ours will allow you to see the entire process on one trip. We will fist visit a herder family outside of Ulaanbaatar, followed by a tour at the Gobi Cashmere Factory, the first and largest of its kind in the city.

Itinerary

Day 1 Tuv Province / Ulaanbaatar

In the morning, meet your guide and begin driving to the rural area of Mongolia. Our destination is a nomadic family who raises goats and sheep for their living. We will visit the family and explore their age old traditions. We will then have the opportunity to visit the animals and learn how cashmere is collected. After lunch at the nomadic family, Mongolian style, we will drive back to UB and visit the Gobi Cashmere Factory. Here, we will have a tour through the main production assemblies and learn how cashmere sweaters and other products are made. We will then have a chance to visit the factory outlet for a shopping opportunity. (L)

Day 1 Sights and sounds of Ulaanbaatar

Visit Gandan Monastery, the seat of Buddhism in Mongolia and enjoy a private blessing by a monk. Next, we will visit the National History museum, which houses the largest collection of Mongolian ethnic, historical and cultural art crafts. Then, we will enjoy lunch at BD’s Barbeque. After a visit to the Bogd Khan’s Winter Palace Museum, pay a visit to the Zanabazar Fine Arts Museum to explore the finest art heritage of the country from Stone Age era to the early 20th Century. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Mongolian performance followed by a dinner at a fine local restaurant.
