Day 1 Hustai Nuruu National Park
Begin the day with a visit to Gandan Monastery, the seat of Buddhism in Mongolia. We will stroll around the monastery grounds and obverse the monks in chanting. Later, visit the National History Museum for an excellent collection of Mongolia’s history and cultural heritage. Next, drive to the Hustai Nuruu National Park to spot the Takhi wild horses in their natural habitat with a chance to photograph them. Known as the Przewalski's horse, this horse is known as world’s only true wild horse. Last seen in the Mongolian wilderness in the 1960s, the horse had been considered to have been extinct in Mongolia until a Dutch organization flew in 16 horses in 1993 from a private enclosure in Netherlands. Today, the park horse population is nearing 400.
After checking in at a ger, we will set out to spot this horse in the wilderness. Dinner and overnight in gers. (Approx. 3 hours driving; Ger Camp; B, L, D)
